HELP!!!!

June 2004

I have a very loving and wonderful Pap except for her barking, pulling at our clothes and even nipping at our legs when we leave the house. We always give her a Kong with treats to try to distract her but that doesn't always work as she just ignores it until we leave. We also go through something similar at night when one of us goes to bed before the other, she goes into her barking/whining routine. Any suggestions on how we can resolve her "separation anxiety"?

ANSWER

(1) Another Pap may solve your problem. She would have a friend and not be lonely.

(2) Has your Pap been crate trained?
Some dogs think of their crate as their den. It’s their safe place to retreat to when alone and threatened. Favorite toys and treats in the crate help.
